- Myoma U Than Kywe -

He was the leader of the Panglong Conference(a historic meeting that took place at the Shan State in February 1947) with General Aung San that initiated the formation of the new nation of Union of Burma in February 1947. It was during World War Two that he started his life as a high minded polician. He was a Chairman of the Myoma National School. So he adopted his Politician name as “Myoma U Than Kywe”.
He was born in 1924, Rangon. He attended Myoma High School in Rangon and achieved a B.A from Rangon University. He was elected vice-president of both the Rangoon University Student Union (RUSU) and the All-Burma Students Union (ABSU). Almost well known prime minister, politicians, democracy leaders, human rights activists, ministers, generals, nationalists, writers, medical specialists, engineers, artists, sport men, actors, actress, merchants and senior top officers etc were came from Myoma national school.
He became "သခင္Than Kywe" when he joined the Do bama Asiayone (Our Burma Union), and acted as their member. He was a colleague of first Prime Minister U Nu since 1938.
I have read "He speaks clearly and wisely with a commanding voice. He is kind, good-natured and helpful. He always encourages us to work hard and honest. He maintained good character, good discipline. He would tell us the rise and fall of great Burmese kings. He inspired us to love our country, our people and our culture." His guidances and behaviors are very impressive to me. And he said "You must maintain an enthusiasm for learning in education throughout your life and next "You have the ability to choose righteousness and truth, no matter what your circumstances." And also he said to treat others like your blood brothers and sister and to love your parents,"On facing critical times for the nation, take risk” and "Friends must be faithful to one another." He taught us "Do not dwell in the past. Do not dream of the future. Concentrate the mind on the present moment."
Lastly, he died at the age of 53,on 22nd Sep 1983. He was well known as a venerated politician in Burma. So we bow our heads to him because of he kept his promise and integrity to people and country forever.
