သခင္ကိုယ္ေတာ္မိႈင္း (သို ့) ေမာင္လြန္း


He was one of the Burmese poets, writers and political leaders and regarded as the father Burmese nationalist. At the age of 9 he witnessed the fall of the Konbaung dynasty and the abduction of King Thibaw and Queen Supayalat by the British, being taken away in a carriage, near the queen's own Myadaung Monastery where he was a boarder. It was a scene that he would never forget and one that sparked his nationalist fervour in a lifelong struggle for independence.
Hmaing was born on 23,March,1876 in Wale village near Shwedaung, Pyay District. Hmaing was born to U San Don(ဦးစံဒြန္း) and Daw Own (ေဒၚအုန္း). On 22,July,1964, at the age of 88 the man of many skills left the world.Pandi Lay Maung Sammadi, Saya Lun, Bow Bow Aung, Mr. Maung Hmaing, Thakin Kodaw Hmaing are pen names of Hmaing.
Inspiration of Mr Maung Hmaing - There was a popular novel 
at that time called "ခ်ဥ္ေပါင္ရြက္သည္ ေမာင္မွိုင္း" (The Roselle Vendor Maung Hmaing) by U Kyee.At that time, putting "Mr" in front of name was mocking among people who admire England and Hmaing by taking his name and styling himself Mister at the same time.
(ခ်ဥ္ေပါင္ရြက္သည္ ေမာင္မိႈင္းသည္ ဇာတ္လမ္းအရ အလြန္ယုတ္မာေကာက္က်စ္လွေသာ လူရႈတ္လူေပြတစ္ဦးျဖစ္ျပီး အမ်ိဳးေကာင္းသမီးမ်ားအား လွည့္ျဖားကာ ဥစၥာပစၥည္းတို႕အား ယူငင္သည္။ ထိုေခတ္ကာလက လူၾကီးမ်ားသည္ ထိုဝတၳဳကို ယုတ္မာညစ္ညမ္းေသာ ဝတၳဳအျဖစ္မွတ္ယူျပီး လူငယ္မ်ားအား မဖတ္ရန္ တားျမစ္ခဲ့ၾကသည္။ ဖတ္ရႈလိုသူ လူငယ္အခ်ိဳ႕သည္ ထိုဝတၳဳကို အိမ္သာအတြင္း ယူငင္၍ဖတ္ရႈခဲ့ရသည္ဟူ ဆိုသည္။)
After independence in 1948,he spent the rest of his life trying to bring internal peace to the land. He was a leading light in the world peace movement in Burma and won the Stalin Peace Prize in 1954. Hmaing also traveled to People's Republic of China, Mongolia, Hungary and the Soviet Union in 1953, and went to Ceylon and India for the World Peace Conference in 1957. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1960 by the University of Hamburg, West Germany.
